That is rediculous!! No human could calculate that🤣. I saw the first move, and the Rh8+ draw, but the main line was WAAAY beyond my field of vision. Incidentally, I first saw the Rh8+ Bxh8; Rxh8 mate idea in a game of Euwe when I was just a child in chess terms, and have never forgotten it. It is strange how these patterns stick in your head. Have a great day mate.👍
Best defense for black from a game, for draw at least

hi simaginfan!
You think that at least the first black's move of ...Nd4 can't be found, as the best blocking? Maybe I have dealt with it some times as white and seemed easier [not easy], cause it's something I try in my games, this Rh8# pattern. Good day to you too

and to clarify the position was taken from a game. Not the line here. There I've managed to checkmate with Rh8#

Yeah, I found ...Nd4 after looking at the other blocking move ...c3 - it was the only choice left!!🤣. Didn't even consider 2.Nf4. At least I am honest!!! ( and probably not as tactically aware as I once was. Old age!!) Speak soon buddy.😁👍

didn't include ...c3 or even ...Bxb2 or even ...Kf8 trying to flee, many variations to look but a known pattern with the white N@d5 as monster guarding f6 and e7
Perhaps dangerous to make this position a puzzle [7-moves], but seemed interesting middlegame tactics. Though not totally clear [cause of possible variations], the puzzle is based on the best move for black with the direct threat rule on mind [according to engines too]. However, besides the first three moves that I feel sure, maybe then variations for black could arise at least as 2nd best.
