That's crazy. Crazy, but not uncommon- I think that they see it as preemptively stopping pin possibilities after bishop moves like Bb5 and Bg5. No ugly doubled pawns if Bxf6 or Bxc6. No annoying pins. Unfortunately for them, chess is not that easy...
