Black is up a pawn and begging to trade queens. White has a better idea. This time, twenty points for naming the original game this came from, because I'll doubt anyone will know.

scrap that, Black is up two pawns.

Loomis

"white may be threatening mate soon"

Mate is threatened immediately, black has to defend against Bc7+ Ke7 Qd6+ Ke8 Qd8#

Loomis

At first I thought white could skip the rook sacrifice and  play 1. Nxc6 right of the bat since this threatens Rd8# and Qxb5. But black has the defense 1. ... Ba6! defending the queen and uncovering the a8 rook defending d8.

It was some young guy (Bacrot?) on the losing side, playing against a strong GM. Topalov perhaps, or Beliavsky?

Waller, twenty points to you sir!! very impressive. Beliavsky-Bacrot, Albert FRA, 1999. Here is the game in full.

Wow! I surprise myself sometimes! Memorable combination.
