Equal but Wrong Solution

I was doing puzzle rush, and I came across a puzzle that had two separate paths to M3. I chose incorrectly and got marked as such. I went back to review and even confirmed the case.

Has anyone else come across similar?

Pardon my annotations and description, but here’s essentially how it was.

Black: RA8, RE3, QD4, KG8, pawns a7, b6, c7, fgh7, so the king is trapped.

White: QF3, RF1, RA1, KG1, pawns abgh2.

Here’s I did and marked wrong:
White QxA8
[expected follow up moves]
black QD8,
white QxD8,
black Re8,
white QxE8 (checkmate)

Here’s what the game wanted:
White Qxf7
Black KH8
White QF8
Black RxF8
White RxF8 (checkmate)

I see it now. If black blocks check with the rook, I’m in check and lose out. Got it.
