Is it possible to mate black?

I had a very interesting game which I had many opportunities to win in, but I didn't bother thinking about it too much and now got myself into a draw situation. Is it possible to mate black with just a king and a bishop in this situation?

No, it is not possible to mate with a king and bishop.  That is a draw  Smile

nope. you could never mate in that position. the only way to mate with a King+Bishop vs. King+pawn would be if the black king were in the corner and the pawn was still on the 2nd rank. basically, he would have to let you do it :)

That's what I thought, but I still had hope thinking that maybe I could force his king into the corner, but I guess that is very unlikely and would take too long even if he would magically let me get him into there! Thanks anyways :)

if I were black, I would feel good about getting the game here instead of losing it earlier when you had the advantage.

Theoretically, black can still lose the game, but then he would have to help alot Smile If he just moves his king away from the pawn then it's a certain draw.

If he however promotes to a bishop (knight), and puts his king on a8 and his bishop on a7, then you could possibly mate him with your king on c7 and your bishop on the long diagonal Wink

But indeed, if that position arises, black is in his right to claim a draw (and should also be awarded the draw).

No, you still can't win in this position.
