Hi everyone --

The Chessboard Sudoku website at http://www.manushand.com/chessboard has been updated (still some work to do on the mobile version; check it out with PC/Mac right now) and there are many new puzzles for you to try there.

If you like chess puzzles (and obviously you do), and Sudoku, check these out.  Your task is to determine the digits on the Sudoku grid based on how the chess pieces got to where they stand.  In the example below (puzzle number 81, which is solvable online at http://www.manushand.com/chessboard?puzzle=81 ), the White pieces moved UP in number from their initial positions to where they currently stand (for example, if a White piece began the game on a 3, it first moved to a 4, then to a 5, etc.), while the Black pieces moved DOWN in number (from a 7 to a 6 then a 5, etc.).

Many of the puzzles have very detailed hints to help you (this one offers a fair amount of help)!  Please let me hear from you!  Thanks!

(The colored squares on the margin are part of the Sudoku grid, but of course not part of the chessboard.  You know what I mean.  It's a 9x9 Sudoku grid with a chessboard sitting on 64 of its squares.)

Manus Hand

(Although it doesn't matter, you probably can tell that the position is contrived such that the pieces are arranged to form the digits 1 and 2.  This is because this particular puzzle was created for a holiday puzzle-creation challenge with the theme "The 12 Days of Christmas".  Happy Holidays, all!)
