Classic Mate in One

I haven't looked at the solution but I think d7xbc7 queens and shuts down the queen #

Seems that is blocked by bishop...how about knight promoting from d7xbc8?

dxc8 with a queen promotion doesn't work. The bishop on h1 comes across the board to b7 blocking the check.

If you promote to a knight, the king just walks out of it.

Oh Qa3 because blacks queen is pinned! Ahhh!

Since pompom posted the solution six years ago, the next challenge is to construct a proof game for the starting position. Who will be first?

Also, when you post alternatives, make sure black can't hang on by a thread.

This is a joke problem from Leonid Kubbel.  The position is perfectly legal. Good luck trying to find the only mate in one in this position!

A lot of moves seem like mate, but look carefully and you will see why not.
