FxG7 Looks like the best course of action, though I could be mistaken.

that was really good...

Ng5 now if 1...Kxf5 Qe4#

                2...Bxf5 Nf3#

                3...Nxf5 Qxe6#

                4...Nxd3 Qe4#

5...any other move by black Qe4#.

Unless i'm missing something Nxc5 seems to work too. Actually, Nxc5 may work better than Ng5. With Ng5, what about exf5?

1.fxg7

2. Qd6

 I think Nf7 # would work?

Yes, that'll work. So Ng5 and Nxc5 leads to mate.

After 1. Nxc5 if black responds:

  • 1. ... Nxf5, Kxf5, Nxd3, or bxc5, then 2. Qe4#
  • 1. ... exf5, or Bxf5, then 2. d4#

So i guess the answer isn't exactly unique.

Yes Ng5 looks good Any catch there?

If Ng5 then Nxd3 means the queen cant move to e4. Hence no mate-in-two...

Edit: Then again, Qd6 *Smiles embarrisingly* can't see any way to stop it, then.

Thanks!! I could not come up with the solution. Was beginning to drive me a little (more) crazy.Smile

if ng5 kxf5, no more mate in two!!!

c4+, cxd4 is forced, then exd4 is mate.

A better answer to d4+ is KxF5, but white still forces a win:

1 d4+ Kxf5

2 fxg7+ Kg6 (forced)

3 g8=Q+ Kh6 (Kh5 loses to Qg5)

4 Qg5+ Kh7

5 Rf7+ Kh8

6 Qg7
