For no1
1.g8=Q Nd6 and 2. Qc8
if you want a legal position scottrf then do the first one.
I don't understand the problem with that. Just don't create stalemate and the obvious moves win.
1. Qxg6 Ba7+ 2. Kh2 Rh5+ 3. Qxh5 Qd7
1. Qxg6 Rf2 2. Bxf2+
I don't see clear mate in either position.
The first is mate in 9. This can be checked by comp.
The second one is interesting though. It is an illegal position so it can't be fed into my comp.
the second one is mate in six for white,
Sorry, but my comp says there is no mate in 6.
Here's some possible continuations for the second one according to Houdini 1.5:
0. ... Kf6 Nxc3 Kh5 2.Bxg6+ 2.Kf3+ Bc6+ 3.Rd3+ Kf6+ Bxb4 Nxb5 Bxd3
1.Kf3 Bc6+ 2.Kd4 Kf6 3.Kxc6+ Kd5+ Kb6+ Nxc3+ Q2xa3+ d6+ Ne4+
1.Kf3 Kf6 Bc6+ Nxc3+ Kh5+ 3.Bxg6+ 4.Rd3+ Kf6+ Bxb4 Nxb5 Bxd3
for problem two i meant to put a knight, not a bishop on b8. watcha, if white promotes to a queen black will just move his knight between c8 and d6(or betweens c8 and e7) if white takes it then it will be stalemate.

With bNb8 there is a cook found by comp: 1.Qxc7!
1. Qxg6(this is correct) - Rf6 2. Qxf5 (by scottrf)- Qe8 3.??
The biting way you answered my first try (forcing a specific textual format) has put me off enough to not engage any further.
