There have been some back end changes so the current puzzle ratings shown in the interface are not the ones being used in the selection algorithm.
At some point those values should show in the interface and the change is to improve the puzzle ratings.
I previously thought that I had the system figured out regarding rated puzzles. In short, I observed that I'd get matched with progressively harder puzzles as I had streaks of success, but then when I'd fail one, the following puzzle would usually be 100-200 points lower rating, sort of a "reset."
However, lately this pattern has completely broken down. I've had numerous days in the past month where I will for example, pass a 2050 rated puzzle, then fail a 2150, and then be given a 2500-2600 level which I also fail (my own rating has been around 2550 during this). Has anyone else observed this at higher puzzle ratings where you just keep being given extremely challenging puzzles even if you are in the middle of failure streak? I can't think of even one time this happened to me when I was rated lower around 2100 or so, in the past without fail if I started losing, I'd get easier puzzles to help me reset.
I don't know what to do now because I don't have any good way to access easier puzzles anymore and allow me to reset my mind.
