Puzzle Rating madness

Yep I had sat around 2900 as well, and now I'm struggling to keep above 2600 - I was 2800 last night and did some puzzles and they were all -27 at the craziest. Something is up. Extra Hard = +5 in a lot of cases too, which is bonkers.

I agree with both of you. I'm down around 2400, but getting 3 right is worth +15 for the day, and 2 wrong is -35. Not sure how gaps are so wide. Also, puzzles should be in ratings ranges around where you are instead of wild swings in skills.

Yep!!! It's kind of crazy. I was able to get my rating to 1938 but I got a few wrong and dropped back to like 1500 😂. (But seriously I'm around 2860 now).
I think the fact that the "target times" are like 9 seconds for some tough ones (despite the ratings) mean you don't get all the points. Like guys, it takes me 9 seconds to figure out what color I am. Lol
Same here, though my puzzle rating is lower (~1900). Today, +5, +5, -16 for three puzzles. It's totally bonkers.

I've spent the last 12 or so months diligently doing puzzles for about an hour a day and improved my puzzle rating from about 1200 to 2400 a few weeks ago.

Damn I can't edit my comment above. Anyhow I'm finding it difficult to stay motivated now because I haven't scored higher that 5 for a correct answer in weeks no matter how complex it was - and yet I lose anywhere between 15 and 25 points per wrong answer. It reached a head a few minutes ago when after getting 15 right on the trot and scoring 75 points - I got 3 of the next 5 wrong and lost 15, 25 and 30 points. So in summary I improved by 85 points for getting 17 right and went backwards by 60 points for getting 3 wrong. I'd be happy if I gained 5 per correct and lost 10 per wrong puzzle - that would make sense - but the way it is now is just nonsense!

You can now set the difficulty of the puzzles.
That being said I still only get 5 points while I'm at a 31-3200 rating

I have the same issue, I'm only getting puzzles that give +5 (the puzzle ratings are ~1000 below my own), and it's definitely a recent change. I don't care about the rating so much but I really don't want to be getting easy puzzles every time, that doesn't help me at all.

This is something I got from staff to share.
We are currently working on a significant overhaul of our puzzle difficulty system and puzzle ratings. Over time, the current puzzle rating algorithm created highly inflated puzzle ratings for our members — and consequent inaccurate estimates of a puzzle difficulty. As we roll out our new system, you may see some inconsistencies in your puzzle stats, and rating changes from puzzles solved and missed may be greater than in the past.
We ask you to wait with us just a bit longer! Since in the coming weeks we will be publishing an entirely new rating system for puzzles for all members. We’re confident it will be a major steps towards our ultimate goals:
- Provide a more meaningful rating which correlates more closely to player’s Blitz and Rapid ratings.
- Serve puzzles better suited for each player’s level.
- Offer options to member who are looking for different puzzle-solving experiences.
In last few months that's a second time they change rating system. First time was accompanied with some weird pumpy-bumpy floating boxes which presumably are supposed to make our experiences "nicer". In fact it irritates... Chess is not car race. Original system was good enough.

I feel like Sisyphus with a chessboard, grinding my way up with +5 gains, only to get flattened with a -19 boulder of shame?

That feature, Puzzle Points (or Puzzle Path), did not change the rating system or algorithm at all. It can also be disabled if you don't want it.

That's not the same thing.
Thanks Martin for the update
I'm working on bringing my puzzle rating back up to 2900 - I went full tilt like a couple months ago and took a break. Now when I get one right it seems to be only +5 but a higher rated puzzle if I get wrong I'll lose like -15 or something.
It would seem to me unbalanced in the distribution.
Maybe I'm just crazy. I also found some puzzles that were marked wrong but it was the right answer (including under the analysis button) but that was SUPER rare.
