The Puzzles system has a bug nowadays. The puzzles you get will be drastically lower-rated than normal. As a 2000, I sometimes got 1000-rated puzzles. Since your gains/losses are determined by the difference in your rating and the puzzle’s rating, lower-rated puzzles will take away more points and give less. And because of this bug, lower-rated puzzles are all you will get for quite a while, it seems.

Thank you GraysonKellogg . I've managed to get to 2500 on the tier puzzles & finding I'm getting " penalized " so many rating points for an incorrect answer , the incentive to do them can dwindle
What's with the puzzle ratings, if I solve it I get +5, yet if I get it wrong I can lose anything from -5 to -23
