Puzzle settings

Hello, new to this forum but been enjoying puzzles for a long time. I have a question about the puzzles on chess.com (and all the apps I've tried recently).  I enjoy the challenge of solving a puzzle and I can tell when I've made an incorrect move (the giveaway is that my attempted solution fails).  Why, then, do all the available puzzle apps inform me when I've made an incorrect move and refuse to allow me to continue?  This is especially frustrating with end game puzzles that don't specify how many moves; if I fail at first I want to try again - but I can't fail the first time, i can only be prevented from continuing.  This makes shorter puzzles pretty easy as well as one can randomly try moves until one is permitted to continue with another move.

Part of the purpose of puzzles (according to what I read here) is tactical training, they appear to be a learning tool for many people, including myself. But these puzzles do not allow one to learn from mistakes because they don't allow mistakes.  I want to be permitted my mistakes, see the consequences and try again, etc.

Is there anything in the settings to turn off the feature that stops a puzzle immediately upon making an "incorrect" move?

Thanks!

[Sorry, I'm not really looking to debate whether or not I should be allowed to try all 3 moves of a mates in 3 and then fail vs only being allowed to try one incorrect move of a mate in 3 and then have to stop.  I see the value in the current puzzle set up, but would also like to have a bit more freedom.]

The way that puzzles work here is that it stops as soon as you make an incorrect move and there no option to stop that. You can open the puzzle on analysis, go to the position you're interested in and use the Practice vs Computer option to try things out.

Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately, analysis mode either requires me to play both sides of the board or it includes instructions on where to move.

It's unfortunate that puzzles are stopped after an incorrect move. For many of them, knowing which move doesn't work is sufficient (or at least helpful) knowledge to solve the puzzle, and I don't see much point in puzzles that reveal their own solutions.

Tactical training requires learning from one's mistakes. That's not possible when the exercises dont permit mistakes.

Is anyone else frustrated by this?

In analysis mode you can get to the position you have a question about and click the Practice vs Computer icon on the bottom to let the computer play the other side. You might have to try a couple of times to get the right side to move to be correct and you'll have the ability to change the bot if wanted.

The "practice vs computer" icon doesn't appear on the app or the website, but I don't have a premium subscription. I'm guessing that would do the trick.

Thanks

IMO there are literally hundreds of flaws in the puzzle interface. For comparison I want to point out that there is a Go-interface which more or less follows your orders. It will continue to play prepared lines after you made a fatal mistake. After a number of moves (variable) it tells you you failed to solve the challenge in a position where that is obvious to you! So you don't get the points but you get the lines which explain your failure. There used to be a chess website with the same interface but it closed down.

It's on the website and doesn't require premium. It's also on Android by clicking Analysis, then the menu and Practice vs Computer
