Doesn't really work since the N could go to e2 or f5 and be fine. I think that e5, kicking the knight, followed by e4 (forking the other knight and bishop) works better.

If e5 then white plays Nxe5

if the knight goes to e2 the pawn can attack the bishop and the bishop has no escape, if the knight goes to f5 the pawn can attack the bishop and after the bishop retreats the knight is lost to the other bishop

e5 isn't a good move: Nxe5 and now you have no advantage

there are indeed 3 places N could go but they all lead to the same
e2 folowed by c4 Bxc4 dxc4
f5 folowed by c4 Nxg7 Bxg7

so for the puzzle it doesn't matter

My only complaint is that the position is a bit artificial looking... how did the e pawn come off the board? How did the queen's N get to d4? It's all quite possible, but it isn't plausible.
