Puzzles 🧩

I never really did puzzles before I started playing online for the first time 3 months ago due to the pandemic. Now I am addicted. I do 26 religiously every day. I have crossed 2700, my process is as follows:

a) Determine how much danger my King is in. If there is an immediate mate threat, puzzles are greatly simplified because I know that every move has to be a check. If there is a mate in two threat, I have one non-check to spend etc.

b) Checks, Captures, Threats, even stupid looking ones - this is an unbeatable method of analysis in puzzles or attacking in a game.

c) If b) doesn't give anything, look at the last move played because this almost always has some bearing and is usually inaccurate for some reason.

Of course it is much easier when you know that there is something there but puzzles are a great help in developing a 'nose' for a winning position.

Now that's a much better puzzle. I approve of this one.

It's also very instructive because if you follow the checks/captures/threats rule, you can solve it relatively quickly.

I have about 1800 puzzle rating but I’m watching hikaru on his puzzle survival mode and he’s at 110. He just causally said people have made it to 200. Does anyone know where I can see the all time leaderboard for puzzle rush survival mode?

Bad puzzle again. You missed a simple mate in 2.

You're on 2/3 strikes now.

What? The guy is completely right, If you can't argue without stepping away and personally attack the guy, and can't either keep arguing well or accept his point of view/your mistake then don't argue at all, and don't share things on the forums because they are a place where you might share your work but at the test of criticism. You can't not accept conrtstructive criticism

So recently, it hit 1300 puzzles, as a low 700 and then my puzzle rating fell downhill about 60 points, if anybody has tips on these diabolical puzzles, please comment down below bcuz I really want to hit 1300

Thank you

Listen every move you choose, there will be a certain amount of uncertainty. Just before you make the wrong move, you know, there's something wrong with the move you chose.

When you have that feeling DONT and I mean DONT move just then. go through every possible variations if necessary.

what about the target time?

Target time be GODDAMND! you wont lose a lot of points from target time. only about 1 or 2 points?

Think think think till ur 100 % sure and you know every situation upto the win.

How do I know this'll work?

When I was 1900 puzzles. I was stuck there. yes, LITERALLY STUCK.

This strategy helped me bring my rapid to 1600 (whcih unfortunately fell to 1550 recentlysad.png)

and brought my puzzles to 2100 and rising!

I find this to be untrue. Getting a puzzle within 100% time often means you get 10 to 15 points. If you take a few minutes, best you can get is 5 points. So possibly a 10 point difference. Sure, if you get it wrong on the first move (usually the hardest to find) then you'll lose 10 to 15 points, so I agree usually it's not worth the risk if increasing your puzzle rating is the objective.

Unrelated - who are these target times based on? The only ones I ever meet are the passed pawn puzzles. Otherwise it take me ages to figure things out because you have to be so certain, otherwise it's -15 points after -15 points.
