Thankyou JulioBr, 127th puzzle http://www.chess.com/tactics/server?id=286433

Thankyou Metaknight251, 1.hxg6 (+5) is too good an alternative first move but this problem is easily solved by removing the rook on d1, 128th puzzle http://www.chess.com/tactics/server?id=436821 Unfortunately there are too many alternative winning lines to allow your variation as a puzzle.

Thankyou Piphilologist, for a nice puzzle. 129th puzzle http://www.chess.com/tactics/server?id=304025

Thomas_Vandeputte, 130th puzzle http://www.chess.com/tactics/server?id=433327

(h1 rook removed to remove alternative winning lines. Please use a computer to check future submissions). Your second puzzle is also ambiguous 1…Nxf2 (-19) 1…Rxf2 (-12), and the third with Bd5 (+12) alternative to Qg8+. Removing white’s pieces on c3 and f4 solves this, but there are already lots of simple examples of smothered mate like this on tactics trainer.  Your 4th puzzle is also ambiguous with 1.Rae1 +10 but gives rise to the 131st puzzle http://www.chess.com/tactics/server?id=158145 after removing some material.

ClavierCavalier, French puzzle, puzzle3, and puzzle4 – I sorry I haven’t made them into puzzles as they are too easy.  Puzzle 2, Nf5 and Qf3 are both as strong as Re1 I’m afraid.

IixxProxxii, unfortunately there are many alternative winning lines eg.Nxf3 (mate in 7).

IixxProxxii your mate in 4 has two mate in two solutions.

Thankyou yennura, 132nd puzzle http://www.chess.com/tactics/server?id=349745

IixxPROxxii, there are several mate in 5 alternatives to Rg8+ (mate in2).

Thankyou Metaknight251, 133rd puzzle http://www.chess.com/tactics/server?id=452343

Thankyou LegoPirate, 134th puzzle http://www.chess.com/tactics/server?id=259587

Thankyou Rooperi 135th puzzle http://www.chess.com/tactics/server?id=470635 with a variation 136th puzzle http://www.chess.com/tactics/server?id=356283

LegoPirate, unfortunately after h4 there are multiple winning lines. However trying to find a variation I came across 137th puzzle http://www.chess.com/tactics/server?id=272129 although I’m not sure how conclusive it is, and it may have to be deleted. It is likely to be high rated so high rated tacticians may appreciate the defensive nature of the problem. Thankyou also for the 138th puzzle http://www.chess.com/tactics/server?id=244347

Black blunders on move 17, white gets advantage with moves 18 and 19

cflux

Here's one I just played ( In the previous move I gave away my knight on c3 so I could unleash this deadly weapon bxa6 Bxc3)

Here is one that I would like to share from one of my games.

bigEgg1000, 1.Kd6 and 1.Kd7 are also winning.

Thankyou Dark_n_Stormy_Knight for a stunning endgame problem, 139th puzzle http://www.chess.com/tactics/server?id=320759

Metaknight251, after 5.c8=R Rb2+=

Thankyou nameno1had for the 140th puzzle http://www.chess.com/tactics/server?id=422759 a nice mate. Rook on h8 removed to avoid ambiguity on the first move.

Thankyou chess_persn for a nice windmill, 141st puzzle http://www.chess.com/tactics/server?id=220171

Unfortunately Budthestud, for this puzzle thread alternative lines must have a computer evaluation ideally of <0.3. However a variation gives rise to the 142nd puzzle

http://www.chess.com/tactics/server?id=327407

chessgm8, 143rd puzzle http://www.chess.com/tactics/server?id=437155

(modified to remove alternative advantageous lines)

Thankyou StrategicPlay nice endgame by Capablanca. Unfortunately the problem is ambiguous with 3.Ng5+ or 3.Qe7+ being as strong as 3.Qf7+, however the tactic can still be used 144th puzzle http://www.chess.com/tactics/server?id=369303

Thankyou rooperi, 145th puzzle http://www.chess.com/tactics/server?id=284985

Thelronduke, unfortunately there are multiple alternative winning lines.

iixxPROxxii, please do not submit a puzzle you know to be ambiguous. Feel free to make the changes you suggest and re-submit.

Resubmitted puzzle with slight alteration.

  • anything wins there as white has a huge material advantage. Tactics should have only one winning move.
  • your "solution" isn't even the quickest mate; 1.Qe2+ Kd6 2.Rd1+ Kc5 3.Bf2# is quicker.
iixxPROxxii

Nice "trap" here. Black takes the hanging knight, and is defenseless against this, taken from this game:

TheIronDuke

This is from my live game http://www.chess.com/livechess/game?id=359576156

position altered with a bunch of material added so that you are forced to find winning combination

puzzle begins after white plays 20. g5

black plays 20.... Rxf3 and has mate in 2 if white tries to win back the material with gxf6

houdini rates 20.... Rxf3 at -10.44 depth 20/66 and doesn't offer any alternative moves. White's best response is 21. Qf5+ but I think 21. gxf6 followed by the mate in 2 as happened in the game makes for a better puzzle. There is an alternative line 22. Rxe1 Qxe1#

EDIT: Sorry, this puzzle's no good. 20...Bxd4 also works. I'm new to chess engines and I only had it showing me the best line.

atarw

This is a puzzle from one of Tals games. Magical!

This puzzle should start after "white tries to win back material", as this is a blunder. Otherwise, this puzzle is ambiguous.

well, yes, there are several ways to mate in 3. Mate in 2 is still better, isn't it?

Yes, that's a variation on black's side. Could be an alternate puzzle.

Btw: the puzzle is a modified situation from http://www.chess.com/echess/game?id=57817384

I don't see how it is ambiguous, black has a decisive advantage after Rxf3 even if white plays the best move Qf5+

The point of the puzzle is to recognise that white cannot capture the bishop on f6.
