In the last puzzle, this position was reached when White sacrificed a Knight to open up the h-file for the Queen. These tactics are necessary in the middle-game to give the Queen and Rooks more scope to threaten the opponent King. In the middle-game, always be looking for ways to improve the scope of your long-range pieces like Bishops, Rooks and the Queen.
