but why?
Rating Gestures

chess.com does'nt know how good are you in chess. so, 1200 is the starting value. if you win, you go higher, & otherwise, you lose points.

In playing my first game on Chess.com, I received a rating of 1200, before I played. Why, and how was that arrived at?
I have a feeling off déjà vu.

1200 rating is a kind of average 'good when i was at school' type player. It is a base to work from.
If you have evidence of a higher rating (e.g Fide title, USCF, BCF) you can submit evidence to chess.com and they will give you an appropriate starting rating.

No they won't.

Ok nuclearturkey, if you wish to think this. amazing how all the titled players (fide title) who have never played a game on here, have a rating of 2200+ (e.g GM Raymond Keene) - why? - because they submitted evidence of previous grade/title.

I'm not falling for your trolling/slash stupidity to lure me in this time. It is a fact that I stated for the benefit of the OP.

Ok, I am wrong.
Oh, well this time maybe you were not trolling..
Edit: Actually you've done this whole "I'm right, no I'm wrong, no I'm right" thing before, you probably are..

if i am 'wrong' i admit it and try to put it right. when some other people are wrong, well........................................

Titled players, who submit documentation, do not start at 1200.
See post#3: erik wrote "See we manually adjusted her rating to 2200 - she's a WGM. :)"
Unfortunately the documents submitted were later rejected.
See post #28: erik wrote "we got an application for a new WGM. i looked at the documents and they looked suspicious, so i started to investigate more."
Finally see GM Nigel Davies. Rated 2200 at chess.com with zero games played.
