or gain a move, depending on how you think about it

n9531l1

When you triangulate, you take three moves to do what you could have done in two. It's usually called losing a move. Sometimes it takes a larger odd number of moves.

Wikipedia: "Triangulation is a tactic used in chess to put one's opponent in zugzwang (a position when it is a disadvantage to move). Triangulation is also called losing a tempo or losing a move."

But you can call it gaining a move if you want to.

Ilampozhil25

yeah i was gonna ask why 7,not 3 in that study you mentioned

n9531l1

I can post the study here if you like.

Ilampozhil25

yes do that

n9531l1

White to play and win. (White wins easily with Black to play.)

An 83-move proof game for #17 is given at #41.

Ilampozhil25

if someone wants to contribute,

really just do the posts past the bump

n9531l1

The bump is #205. But no proof game was posted for #204, so it is fair game.

Ilampozhil25

i guess

n9531l1

Here's my first try at #358

n9531l1

My second try was just one move shorter.

n9531l1

This 31-move game will be my last try. I'll leave it to someone else to try improving to 30.5 or 30 moves. Maybe the composer of the position, Ilampozhil25 , will give his solution.
