Not at all. One could just as simply use the notation system of Draughts or Go. If you want to straighten up the numbers you should propose to double the move numbers rather than change the game. I'd have some sympathy for that!

Btw, when you do, please also propose to change the final scores of chess games - 1-1 instead of the cumbersome 1/2 - 1/2. Perhaps we can even reduce the draw percentages by adopting soccer scoring, 3-0 for a win!

I have made another Christmas tree position! It even comes with a forced finishing white move, just in time to put me on Endgame’s naughty list!

It's Christmas day, and I was feeling generous, so I made a position that can easily be reached legally. The challenge will be to reach it in the fewest number of moves.
Well as I mentioned in the other thread, chess point scoring rules could be slightly altered. For stalemate, the side doing the stalemating could get 1/4 of a point, and the stalemated side gets 3/4 of a point. Repetition both sides get the standard half a point. For dead positions both sides get 1/3 of a point. Draw by 50 move rule both sides get 0 points. Draws by insufficient mating material both sides get 2/3 of a point. Draws by agreement, the side offering it gets 1/2 while the side accepting it gets 2/3 of a point. If the player doesn't accept, and ends up losing, he gets 0 and the offering side gets 1/2, but if he declines and wins, he gets 1 and the other player gets negative 1/2, to make it more of an interesting gamble
Oh, you were serious This looks more like Backgammon where you 'double' to chicken your opponent out of the game!
Chess is a zero sum game which means that the sum of scores of the players involved is always the same fixed number which we in chess have set at 1. As soon as you change that you open the door to cheating. This is for instance the case in soccer where it is better for 2 clubs to score 0-3 and 3-0 than 1-1 and 1-1 in a double rounded tournament. That it doesn't happen a lot (I hope) is because many people are watching the game and then it's quite hard to fix the score without observers noticing weird things going on. Also you need to share your conspiracy with at least 22 players with the chance of leaking. As you can imagine it's much easier to do in chess. In zero-sum games you can try to do the same but the cheat will never increase the total pay-out for both players or clubs together! Which means that both sides will only profit when other financial transactions take place as well like betting. And that indeed is happening in sports a lot today and the offenders are regularly caught!
Just to say that zero-sum is the most risk-free payout setup for playing chess.
