Post what you think is the fastest mate here! No using engines. The checkmate featured here is a very simple pattern, and I hope you will all learn from this =) Here is the puzzle:

Allows Kc7.

I was thinking the King gets trapped there....

Yeah, that seems to work.  I kept getting hung up in positions where I'd cut the Black king's options off entirely and then Black has Rh3+ for perpetual check:

Aaah so i see your all tide up in finding more complex patterns =D but heres a tip, its a simple pattern. Always skim your position for these; it should be even easier here to be honest since you know there is a tactic at hand.

Somehow I still think Black can defend with 2... Rh7 though.

Could be totally wrong, but perhaps...

Correct! Simple eh? Bishop and Pawn acting like a "king" + rook to mate at the back rank. Well sort of simple... It IS simple. But by the way, wtf is HIARCS 12.1 SP Lite?

It's the computer in the chess interface I used move the pieces around in (I find it faster than the diagram here). I guess it put it as the "player" when I exported the PGN.

So you used an engine?! -.-

Avatar of Biarien

No, I just set up the position in the chess interface on manual setting to move the pieces around to get a PGN to upload here.

Thing is he probably didn't use an engine.
