I thought it was too awesome not to post, and had to have a place where I could brag about solving it! Laughing

SenilePinkHipster

Nice way to prevent the mate there!!

Timome

Indeed, also it gains material! Tongue out

Ricky_James_Fischer

After ...Qxg1+ Kxg1 rook d8 moves how is white actually winning?

Maradonna

Aye, that's a cracking move. I didn't see it.

thisguyheisaguy

Yeah, that's a beautiful play for white.  Undeniably.  And black HAS to take the queen, otherwise whites second move is Qh7#!

hackattack

Timome

Yes, brilliant book! (albeit I've only just begun to read it)

I had to brag about solving it somewhere! Tongue out

thisguyheisaguy

yeah i missed that ...g6 forestalls the mate, but after white responds with Nf7+ it's an uphill battle for black.  although gxf3 works in white's favor, too, Nf7+ is a good move to play beforehand.

Eebster

According to Rybka, 1. Qh6!! Be4 2. Qh2 Qxh2 3. Kxh2 Bxc2 4. Nxd8 is more or less the main line. Anything but 1. ... Be4 loses a lot more.

thisguyheisaguy

yep, Fruit returns the same mainline also

AlexSteer

Doesn't white end up losing 2 points?

Bishop for Rook.... or am I missing something?

White does end up losing material, but Qh6 is the only move that prevents mate. After the exchange, the material is equal, but white has a much better position.

emtofaan

Well its a common trick, and anybody would like to take the queen.

emtofaan

Not that common.
