Starts looking more and more like the Matrix around here. Ye never know you're watching a human or a program!

The big shocker was... shocking! Inhuman! Must have been the computer.

Well if you were black and someone asked you what to play after Ke3 I'm sure you would have been able to find it. But yeah in this puzzle it's hard to spot this defensive resource.

Black was so happy to check the wK on b4 to make it block the wQ and wB and now he finds out that he only invited a new attacker wink.png

Just as interesting as the combination in #51 is Stockfish's evaluation. Having won a queen for 2 minor pieces. it only gives white a +0.17 score which is effectively no more than a draw. What do you have to do to crush your opponent in 2020?

hermanstinkt

Yes it's quite an interesting position. Black's positional plusses are clear but you would think winning the lady would gain a little bit more of an advantage. I could have even commented: "White to equalize." along the puzzle.

Arisktotle

That is the upside! Apart from winning the queen the white position would be completely lost. Equalizing is an excellent achievement indeed!

So I wanted to make a fun puzzle inspired by a position I encountered in a game.
However it just turned into a bunch of nasty engine lines.
You can make your best effort or you can just click on the solution and see the variations.

The last one is very nice! I went for the 2nd best move (after the initial move) which was OK but certainly not the best.

I know it, but I forgot about the part where you have to "sit on your hands" wink.png
