Now the question is rearing its ugly head in a beautiful fashion:

"Is this a legal undertaking or an illegal 1 due to the obviously extensive under-promotions?"

Not bad "mate"! happy.png

Feed me with more words, and I'll say "stop" when you are there! However "MATE" is not in sight at this moment, only a grueling process ahead!

It should be legal.

Hm, actually, it might not be. I'm still checking.

The problem is all black pawns MOST be channeled through to finish their journey on one of the white squares (b1 d1 f1 h1), thus making this very tricky undertaking. I hope you come back with a positive answer. I'll cross fingers, mate! happy.png

With this proof game, I found it's legal:

Wow surprise.png & you did it with pieces to spare? (2 rooks)

What kind of magic was that?

why does porcelain have a link

Brilliant work BishopTakesH7 to get to the starting position.

I do not see how either side can force a win.

Black obviously can't because it cannot control a dark square.

White cannot because it does not have enough pieces to take sufficient bishops to enable a pawn to promote. The bishop can only stop the black king taking pawns and the rook cannot escape or do very much

Those are the lyrics for the song "Porcelain Blues"! tongue.png

"Now if you take a look at my previous puzzles you'll see, that above my strange sense of humor, there are validity in most, if not all of them. Why would I post such a puzzle if it is not serious?" meh.png

Now Illbtu you have got me thinking.

Now I suppose the answer is march you king to f6 then you need to move your bishop to f8 to protect the rook.

Then move your king to h6 to protect the rook

Sacrifice the rook on h7 and checkmate with the bishop on g7.

To enable this to happen you will need to sacrifice pawns to enable the bishop to move round.

This is where I am getting stuck. I cannot yet create the zugzwang which will force black to make the capture that I am after

I am inclined to start with a4 because if it is captured you immediately advance the pawn to d7 creating the route around but obviously black will not play ball. Who is cleverer than me?
