Play Mike Klein.

(Just a side note: He's a NERD)

No way! I never would have guessed!

So does Nc8.

Unfortunately Qf7 instead does not yield the same unless the Black bishop moves away from the pin, since 1..Qf7 2. Qxf7+ Kh8 3. Qf8+?? Rxf8 4. Rxf8?? (i.e. playing an illegal move) Bxg1 (the White king exits the game first).

Bf8 is the same

Rf8 is the *BEST* way since you force queen takes rook white loses an exchange.

If Qf7+?? then Qxf7 and the pin is maintained. If you meant Nd7 instead of Nc8 then 2. Qf7+ Kh8 3. Q or Bxg7#

Also any move after 2. ... Kh8?? 3. Bxg7#

Stupid way to lose a game but not the *BEST*. Puzzle asks for you to find the *BEST*. The *BEST* is 1. ... Rf8?? because it looks like it wins but humorously it loses because the bishop is *FORCED* off the pin that needed to be maintained in order for black to win.

All other variations and white has no good way to win.

No no, in the first part with Black to play, what I mean is that Black does not play 1...Rf8, but instead plays 1...Qf7 (so there is no more queen on c7) before White plays 2. Qxf7+, so my original post is correct. For the knight move, I do mean Nc8.

Come to think of it, you are right, Rf8 looks as if the White queen should be chased away, but instead of especting the runaway, the huntdown suddenly came with Qxf8+. Thus Rf8 is awarded the best losing move. Bf8 and Nc8 are still good ways to lose a game though.
