Nice. Like we said, it's like an algebraic equation.
The Hardest Puzzle.
@Ipburke86: I love that: unlike the experienced players who over-think, "I just jump in and start killing things." That's great!! Belongs in a book of chess quotes, I believe......
And yes, CalbaMan, to people like us, it's as if we ponder all the seemingly infinite variables and they are so overwhelming, why even start?. Every move we make is probably going to be wrong...
I just wish we could submit ipburke86's diagram somewhere for approval.
Why not submit it to a top blogger in order to give it some exposure and, maybe, distribution? If a top blogger posts it, it's bound to get some attention...
Well, what I meant is submit it somewhere to see if his solution is correct. We know he got to the right end, but, just as in regular game analysis, one can give moves to the opponent that one wants them to make, but often they are not the opponent's best moves. I saw quite a bit of that in a recent large vote chess game (and did some of it myself, and still catch myself doing it).
one can give moves to the opponent that one wants them to make, but often they are not the opponent's best moves.
And thats what made me say black had the advantage... Its kinda like proving God... If you beleive, you can prove he exists; if you dont beleive, you can prove he doesn't.
I've got Rybka. I'll see if it accepts the position and first move, and we'll see what happens. I believe chessisgood said Deep Rybka crashed on the position. I just have regular Rybka. Anyway, I'll set it up.
Kage Bunshin No Jutsu (some naruto related stuff, where he creates clones) If you find the real queen, and eat it, the fake ones will dissapear. So that's who wins 1st!
Hah! Maybe you're onto something, Sousuke511, but we hope Ipburke86 has solved it, fake queens and all.
But, alas, Rybka rejected the position for the reason of too many pieces for each side. It would allow many queens, just not that many. Evidently, Houdini accepted the position and even recommended white's move, which almost inspires me to get Houdini, but I don't have it now.
Yes. I'll see about Houdini tomorrow. Well, signing off for the night. Good night all - thanks for the fun banter and puzzle work!
See ya chessaddictress. What a day. We've rustled up a debate spanning more than 70 comments over a seemingly impossible diagram with 62 Queens! Ah, good night, all!
StockFish, which is stronger than Houdini, allowed the position, but died when I asked it to analyze it :)
The centralized queen is strongest, so probably the solution - though just like the intial position in chess, it can never be proved - is caputing a central queen and generally keep capturing towards the center until the "initiative" you have as white gives you an edge as more space emerges on both sides of the board.
Very wise. However, most moves here have only a few reasonable replies.
The funny thing about this one, is that if you over think like all experiaced players do, you lose... I'm not an experianced player... I'm still learning, so I just jump in and start killing things.
:P
