what NOT to do
Pretty good trap there. A minor improvement might be 10.Bxd7+... After the king moves or captures then take the queen.
You haven't done enough Chess Mentor lessons, as this is the famous Milner-Barry gambit, described in Chess Mentor STU016 in the series "First Openings for White." It is a great trap.
In John Nunn's Chess Puzzle Book there's a whole chapter devoted to issues like this. It's called "Find the Wrong Move" and is devoted to finding a plausible move which fails for concrete tactical reasons. You actually get examples where even grandmasters of around 2500 elo missed devastating tactics. Solving puzzles from this angle is a very good training for avoiding fatal mistakes.
