A puzzle taken from ''Modern end-game studies for the chess player'' published in 1959.

Quote: 'The Lancashire County player, D Joseph, has published little, but the following masterpiece is worthy of the worlds greatest end-game composers. Out of a miniature of only six pieces he has constructed a wonderful study well-nigh perfect of its kind.'

Couldn't he have accomplished the same win by QxA1, taking the queen and black has no legal moves?

Qxa1 is stalemate which is a draw, thats the whole point of the puzzle, white wins!

I had seen it before, but was still fun trying to recall the correct moves. A great problem.
