A letter to chess.com

Hi chess.com,

I'm putting this in off topic because I know this is where people will read it. And I hope some members of the CC staff will see this too.

I'm writing to you on regards of my friend Basix (the Off Topic Forums' eternal sunshine) who has repeatedly been getting banned recently. Some of you guys may know him, @BasixWhiteBoy (most recent account is @SparkleBasix).

When I first met Basix, I was all "🎶we can't be friends🎶", because I didn't like his sense of humor. But then I got to know him better, and we became good friends. Recently I've been having some troubles irl and Basix has always made me laugh and feel better like any great friend would. (Thanks so much Basix, if you're reading this.) He was always there and made me smile when I had no tears left to cry.

But now everything has changed... Basix keeps getting banned and we don't even know the reason except for "abuse". (About that: can we please have more specific information about why people were banned? "Fair play" is pretty straightforward, but abuse? That could mean a lot of things.)

Basix tells me that he's contacted support on this issue twice, and received no reply. His accounts continue to be banned. He recognizes that he could have done something wrong, but to ban him like this, without even telling him the reason? Now that's just plain unfair. And now we've lost a valued member of the community and we don't even know why. This just saddens me. Things might never be the same again.

A mod will probably comment on this saying there's nothing you can do, that only cc staff can unban people. Thanks anyway mods, have a great day. Thanks to everyone who read this, I know it's kinda long but I wanted to write it. Basix if you're reading this we miss you here. 🎶Thank u, next🎶 ban attack on a member who actually deserves to be banned like Baby or Viroh.

A chess website is a funny place to learn about late stage capitalism and corporate greed. (I'm talking about the lack of response from support here). I think basix is a good kid who should be unbanned, though it probably doesn't help his case to have that coming from me.

Is this some kind pf sadfishing by surrogate thread? Whining by proxy? Something else?

Staff is busy. They don't have time to drop everything to mollycoddle serial TOS violators. Baby and some others are banned on sight. Changing usernames and IP addresses effectively gets around the bans.

Nah Eldred, what you said might apply if this was some random thread out of no where. Basix is a well-liked forum member who may have broken rules a long time ago, but is otherwise now a perfectly fine member. He has also been ignored for weeks by support, after being directed to contact them by a mod. Your post lacks contextual information.

Most people here want him unbanned, too. Unlike baby for example
