Grobe: Sorry to hear that you had a big hail storm in the southern part of the province. Up north here we have had 2 hail storms in the last couple of week but they were minor and we were very lucky to have no serious damage.

Is hail very common in your area? It is normally nearly non-existant here, but this spring we had numerous hail storms.

In addition to the three on the list (plus the one that just happened):

"Thirteen additional hailstorms between 1981 and 1998 caused an estimated $600 million in damage in the Calgary area alone."

from that link, I was about 1 km from it !

22 March 2010 Perth, Australia The hailstorm that struck after a long dry spell lasted only a few minutes but caused damage to many houses, a number of hospitals and schools, and an airport terminal. The storm damaged thousands of cars, cut power lines and left 150,000 houses and many traffic lights without power. The storm also caused a landslip atKing's Park.[36]

I was very near the St Louis, MO one. I lived in St Charles at the time. Friends had windows broken out of their cars. It was nearly impossible for them to find rental cars while theirs were being repaired.

The worst one I was ever actually in was in Birch Tree, MO. A tornado was part of the storm, although it thankfully missed the house I was at. It hit about 2 AM. The tornado was extremely loud. The next day, there were holes 2-3 inches deep in the ground from the hail. The house had broken pieces of vinyl siding, and the roof did have to be replaced. Trees had deep gouges in the bark, and the yard was carpeted with branches. We found a couple of birds that had been killed by the hail. The area is very rural, though, so I am sure it was not an extremely costly storm.

Snow today. Encountered some (heavy) last week in the mountains, but first snow in the city today.

It looks like our rainy weather has arrived. We had a very sunny summer, though.

Just south of you, we've essentially been dry July till now, which is very unusual. In fact, I don't remember a year like it. We always get spurts of rain well before this time, and some years we have the rains start in September.

Been a great year for tomatoes!

Yet again, beertopia's weather year has been one of extremes.

I'm hoping it holds out until next week. I'm heading down to Stevenson, WA for a conference and I want to do a half day or so of hiking.

Avatar of corrijean

Maybe I'll try out this hike. Looks like it has good views. A bit short, though.

Pretty nice here. Low 70's (F) are the highs. The bad thing is that the wetter season is ending.

This Friday (10/26/12) or 26/10/12 whatever date format you like better, we are supposed to drop into the 30s F. We might even get a freeze.

Snowfall warning overnight. Should be a fun commute tomorrow morning.

I have ridden horses that had "snow shoes" on - they exist (sort of)!

That made me curious as to what they look like and this is what I found.
