It was a little wet in this area last night.  The airport at Sault Ste. Marie recorded 2.56 inches between 8pm and midnight, and there was another couple inches after that.  Sugar Island, in the St. Mary's River at the east end of the Soo, recorded more than 5 inches between 8pm and 2am.  Here's a Doppler rainfall image and some shots someone posted of the primary road on Sugar Island.

I'm about 20 miles west of the Soo, pretty much on the boundary of the turquoise and green bands on that Dopplar image, so 1 to 1.5 inches fell here.  A nice soaking, but nothing overboard.

Only 3 days earlier the area had another 1.5 inches.  Rainfall this year is more than 12 inches above the normal 20.24 to this date.  If this goes on for several more consecutive years maybe Lake Superior can finally fill back to normal levels!  Cool

I thought I saw in the news today that there was one casualty and a handful of injuries on the Canada side as a reuslt of the flash-flooding from this storm.

We just got a lot of rain today. It was cool today, felt like fall after hot weather.

Pretty amazing pics there, Cystem.

Yesterday I think we hit 98 F. In two days the high temp will barely reach the 60's.

Yesterday the high in the Soo was 82 F, and the forecast high for Friday is low 50s.  I wonder how that system is hitting the Caymans and the UP at the same time?  Cool

95 here today. A new record for the date, barely.

83 here, although I heard chatter about 90's. We had a few chilly weeks, so it is nice to have summer back for a short spell.

About the same here (low to mid 80s), but still hot enough to be uncomfortable in the late afternoon.  I guess I shouldn't complain too loudly in front of those pushing 100.

Some negative news.  As in so many other parts of the continent, the past few weeks have averaged on the cool side of normal here in the eastern Upper Peninsula.  However, last night was the first time the Soo has gone below zero F this season, finally pushing through to (-2) F.  I should point out that other stations not very far inland had previous nights down in the minus 8 to minus 10 vicinity, but while there's still open water in the early part of the winter the Soo (and the rest of the southeast Lake Superior lakeshore) is often noticeably warmer than even five miles inland.

Quite a difference from the (-42) F recorded in Jordan, Montana last night.  Gotta like those temps where it really doesn't matter whether you specify F or C! Cool

Last year's winter got off to a much slower start in the Soo-- in fact, the first negative temperature (F) last year didn't occur until this year, arriving on January 1.

As the year winds down, the main local anomaly that continues to catch my eye is the very welcome precipitation.  It's run above normal every single month for a year now except for May (which finished only 0.12 inches below "normal").  The precipitation total for the year is 16 inches above the LTA of 31 inches, and that extra 50% is welcome.  A few more consecutive years like that and Lake Superior will get back up to a reasonable level again.

It's even cold in Texas for once. Teens, and twenties at night.

Last Friday Southern Alberta was the coldest place on earth.  This, just two days after the blizzard that did this:
