A tad chilly

"Cold" here is 50's F. Most of the year it's great beach weather 70's-80's and I take full advantage of that! We get one or two big rain storms that blow through each winter, they drop a lot of rain for a day or two then go away. No big deal if your house is watertight. A slight bit of fog in the winter due to proximity to the coast. It never snows and I've forgotten what it's like to drive on icy roads.

I'm up a hill so I don't have to worry about tsunamis and I have this phenomenal ocean view.

Price to rent a 2 bedroom house in a nice neighborhood with that ocean view?

$300 per month. Electric is about $7 per month. Water $10 for three months. Phone $20 per month. Cable tv/internet $40 per month. Garbage pick up is free. Great place to retire to, no?

Si!!   Time for me to start learning spanish.

There was an ice storm here this morning.  The same system that spawned those tornadoes in Oklahoma and Arkansas split into two parts.  Half of it continued east and threw more tornadoes at people, and the other half came north.  It started dumping rain here in the middle of last night, and it changed to freezing rain about 6 a.m.  The ice formation was fairly thick, and combined with high winds from the east it was just about guaranteed there would be power outages here and there.  Mine was off from about 9:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. (2 hours ago).  The good thing about an ice storm is that it can't be much colder than freezing when it happens, so a power outage isn't horrible.  My house temperature only fell to 48 F.  But my cats kept looking at me like it was my fault the house was colder than usual. Cool

Yikes, we've been having monster snow-dumps followed by quick thaws.  What a mess.  Haven't had an ice storm in ages though -- they can be brutal.

Cystem_Phailure

No monster snows here for a while now.  It's essentially all gone except for a few patches in shadow areas and where there were big banks.  There's an inch or two of snow forecast for tonight and tomorrow but whatever falls may not survive more than a day or so.

Our thaw(s) this year have been much less messy than usual because total snowfall for the winter was only a little more than 50% of normal.  Same thing last year too.

If we get rid of the C and the F you and I experienced exactly the same temperatures Saturday.  Cool

Woke up to somewhere between 8-10 inches on Thursday.  Been dumping all day today as well.  I've still got a bank in my (north facing) backyard from a winter's worth of shovelling that's a good four feet deep despite all the recent thawing.

Cystem_Phailure

It sounds like you won't be planting tomatoes for a while.

Anyone planting before May long weekend here on any given year is taking their chances.

Almost fire season there, isn't it? Cool

Cystem_Phailure

We had some sunshine here, just a few weeks ago.  I almost went snowblind.

Curious, in most places, when the sun gets eclipsed, animals go bonkers.  In Michigan, when the sun appears, do animals go bonkers?  ;)

 Probably something like this.   ^

We can't quite exit winter even though May is near.

Lows are in the 30s F. and even freezing. The average daily high is 60 but I think we've only bested that once so far. We set the record for March rainy days and had a record low high daily temperature in there.

We are in the middle of a short and welcome dry streak but the forecast is calling for continued below average temps.

This years vegetable garden will not include melons or anything long season that won't do well in a pot (that I can pull out of cold or wet fall weather). Like my habanero chilis--but damn they were tiny last season, which was late like this one, and was cut short.

TheGrobe

-11° C this morning, -16 with the wind chill.

I'm about ready for spring to show up anytime now....

Mmm, what dog could resist?

That does sound good. Like a thick cut beef jerky.
