The word "OK" originated in the 1830s as a playful abbreviation for "oll korrect," a slang misspelling of "all correct". It first appeared in print in https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/march-23/ok-enters-national-vernacular on March 23, 1839, in The Boston Morning Post, according to History.com. The term gained further popularity in the 1840 presidential election when it was adopted as a campaign slogan by supporters of Martin Van Buren, who was nicknamed "Old Kinderhook".
