Animated avatar

I would like to change my avatar to an animated one - I've tried it but it is only animated the first time the profile page is viewed, and thereafter is shown as a still.

I've been playing around with cinemagraphs - they are like still photos except for part which moves. Here's one I did yesterday, of a local cat. I would not move as much in my profile pic.

Any tips? I know it has nothing to do with file size, I have tried uploading a tiny gif file and the result is the same.

Maybe, and probably, it is a chess.com policy, as someone might possibly make an extremely distracting avatar.

Yes it is a gif image, and works very well here in the forums, but as an avatar the cat would not move!

I'd like to think it IS a Chess.com policy, for exactly the reason you give.

I have seen animated avatars in the past. They are kind of distracting. 

Me too, a couple of times, though I never returned to check them a second time.

I saw someone with an animated avatar on a forum. It was the Minecraft parrot dancing.

It works when I view it on my alt but not when my friend does
