• Extra: Fanatic Purifiers. Believing themselves to be the rightful owners of creation, the Volieans have set out to conquer it all and end all other peoples, who they believe are unholy demons (except other plantoids — see species description below — who they regard as friends). They specialize in biological warfare. The God-Emperor or God-Empress is believed to be an avatar of Alirio, the creator deity, appearing on the mortal world to rule over it.

My first idea was a Theocratic Monarchy. Because of this, I had to think about religion. These guys worshipped flowers and stars, believing them to be manifestations of their Mother and Father deities. Ok, so I had to name the Kingdom after a flower.

My first thought was peonies, but I discarded that because why would they have peonies? This is not Earth. So now I had to come up with a flower. Designing it was easy, but naming it…

It was obvious the name had to have some relation to the Mother deity. However, I didn’t know what to call her, too, and so I went into a rabbit hole.

Anyway, I ended up discarding that whole flower idea, which took hours, to name the Kingdom the “Holy Kingdom of the Divine Two”. And all was going well…

UNTIL my desire to make a Divine Empire somehow rose (HAHAHA FUNNI FLOWER JOKE).

Little side-note: My stupid-ahh brain was entertaining different possibilities for mythology. In the original one, the universe was the result of the Mother and Father’s marriage, and the Nulfae (they weren’t called that yet; I still didn’t have a name for them) were their children.

However, I thought of the possibility of the earth and the skies being enemies. And then, of course, since this civilization has awareness of space, the Father would now represent not only the skies and stars, but all of the universe beyond Volieos. And because the whole entire universe represented their Mother’s mortal enemy, they would naturally be Fanatic Purifiers.

Back to the idea of an Imperial Cult, I discarded the idea of the Mother being everyone’s mother, instead just a creator, and thought of making the Imperial Family descendants of the Mother, until I realized I was just ripping Japan off. I wanted the Family to be avatars of the Mother. The Father was replaced by an unnamed devil deity, and the Mother morphed into Alirio. So then I discarded the mythos I already had to make this work.

Ok, what’s next?

Naming.

This was what truly broke me. And I’m still not fully satisfied with how I named… everything. I needed it all to sound menacing, but beautiful. Like a church. It took me hours to combine the sounds well, and I still didn’t achieve the feel I wanted.

But oh well. I’m not going back to that sheet except to add some illustrations.
