It says in the Bible to never swear by heaven or earth but that your “yeas” be “yeas” and your “nays” be “nays.” If one is known to be of honest character, one need not take an oath.

Good point.

I think that would also mean your less capable after making a mistake. Oath or no oath, no one is perfect.

Some societies and professions take oaths very seriously. Hitler had the German army take a blood oath to serve him. It's how he trapped them. They didn't dare break the oath. I've taken an oath to defend the constitution. You can't turn back once you've taken an oath.

Sometimes there are consequences for not taking an oath so I imagine a lot of people would take and keep it out of fear depending on the context. I think some people take it serious. But there’s some law enforcers who don't think much about it because of immunity. And if they make a mistake there’s a chance that they can just go to another department. Some of them swear to uphold constitutional rights and dont even know what they are.

The Oxford Dictionary defines it as, “a solemn promise”
New Year’s Resolutions are an oath then an oath. Only 8% of people actually follow through with their New Year’s Resolution though.

I guess there’s no diet like a New Year’s Oath diet.
