You should try an online game using outside aids sometime -- play unrated if you want. The motivation for me was never to get an advantage over my opponent. It was about doing the sort of analysis that is typically only done months later (when you've forgotten most of what you thought about) on every move as you're playing the game, and getting much more learning benefit out of the time I put into chess, because it is so much more meaningful to learn about something that you can use immediately, and the extra excitement of the game causes the positions and lessons to stick in your memory better.
I'm not crying about anything.
Like I say, if we aren't playing for money or doing a serious tournament game, you people can get all the outside help you want and so be it. You and others choose to not only rely on your own skill in your games and that's fine. I choose to play without getting outside help and that's fine, too. Everything is fine. Good luck in your games.
