Extroversion is less liking people, more being energized by social interaction. Introversion is the reverse, it drains the person. So you can be a shy extrovert and a social introvert

Err I'm extroverted both irl and online, but sometimes I tend to fall into ambivert mode

Exactly. If I talk to someone too much it drains me. Doesnt happen much online, but eh it still happens online for me. It also takes time to recharge that social energy for us introverts.
