Obviously the destruction they cause is horrible. But if you really think about it, nuclear weapons made war between countries which have them genuine suicide (making it impossible to seek world domination through force of arms) which is one of the factors that makes our current era quite peaceful, relative to other eras. In that sense; Oppenheimer might have gotten the Ultimate Nobel Peace Prize.

But this isn’t necessarily about war; more about the benefits and consequences of nuclear weapons, or even weapons in general.
Even nuclear weapons are political tools, their very purpose is to influence power
Im not saying dont talk about it, but just saying , definitely political 
I don’t really agree with something so destructive, but I don’t think there’s really any denying the threats having them give any country who even think of starting any type of major war.
I’d say I’m neutral.

13# Of course their destructive capabilities are undeniable. But looking even deeper it can cause a positive multiplier effect. The threat of nuclear war fosters pacifism, spreading pacifism, reducing war and allowing trade to flourish. Trade increases the profits of peace and makes war more expensive, fostering pacifism again.
