Obviously the destruction they cause is horrible. But if you really think about it, nuclear weapons made war between countries which have them genuine suicide (making it impossible to seek world domination through force of arms) which is one of the factors that makes our current era quite peaceful,

War is not won by whoever had the most nukes. Just look at every war that happened after WW2. Conventional warfare didn’t fade into obscurity like many thought it would. And “the day” sucked. And countries can’t just instantly win. You don’t win if you die in the process.
