Bad effects of playing chess

  • It rearranges (sort of) the neurons in the brain, narrows down the synaptic clefts, makes you a high-level intellect. In other words, you become very wise. Then you start creating complex theories that normal humans can't comprehend.

Result: People think you've gone mad.

  • You play a bullet game. Then you play another. And another. In other words you won't stop. You would stop playing if someone forces you to, or you realize you have an chore to do. This isn't applicable to forbearing people, though.

Result: You waste a lotta time.

  • You lose a game. Desperate to gain your points, you play again. You lose. After a string of victories... Wait, no. After a string of losses, you become angry. You abuse your opponent. You get banned from Chess.com. You become even angrier. Again, this isn't applicable to forbearing people. And @Hikaru

Result: You turn into a maniac.

  • Though it isn't scientifically proven yet, some chess players experience a mutation in the cones cells of their retina, after playing for decades. In other words, you become color-blind. It affects your play, in turn, you experience what I mentioned in points 2 and 3.

           Result: I'm gonna stop now.

I enjoyed reading this amusing post. What's even funnier is that some of it is true!

Chess like everything in life should be played moderately. Just because there's bad effects it doesn't mean you should stop playing, it just means you should play with moderation and self-control. If there's one thing I learned with chess is self-control (not breaking something or yelling out loud even though you're angry for losing). You need to setup a schedule for playing chess and not lose control of it. For example, deciding you should only play 5-10 bullet games a day regardless of the results or playing 3-5 rapid games a day. But that's just my opinion.

The reason why I know it is true is because some of it has happened to me before.

I will take over 😎 Playing an average of 3 hours daily make.one.Anti Social. No longer interested to connect with friends on social media, and don't go out with friends on weekends.

1. You'll constantly stare off in the distance, often in the direction of other humans who will be greatly confused and possibly offended, as you try to work out the variations from your chess position earlier that day.

2. You'll be unable to see tile floors without your brain going into overdrive.

3. You'll never be able to see people "playing" chess on t.v./movies, or any advertisements including a chess position without pompously making the snide comment -- "Oh sure, so smart eh? Look at the geniuses, look at the lovers of chess..... don't even have the board set up right!!"

Playing chess obsessively causes addictive behavior. The monkey brain in our head gets the same hit that a drug addict, drunk, smoker, etc. needs to feel good.

For drunkards, chess can be fun.
