Don't hate, just because you have to save your 44 ammo for when you go fishing at the river for the bears...

Seriously, Lauri, it is a play on words and a joke, that sheds light on the difficulty of playing against 1. d4 ....
I am sure there are others that feel the same way, though they'd never consider actually doing something like that in reality. I posted this in the off topic forum also. It wasn't meant to be taken seriously.
I get the pun. Be quick to the draw against 1. d4 .
Probably the bogo-Indian, Old Indian or QID are the best drawing weapons against 1.d4.

A 44 Mag wont stop a Bear. it steps out to quickly at about 1400 feet per second and Over Expands when it hits so it wont penetrate very Far. Just Ask Larry Flint....

I have a hard time believing that if you unload all six shots into a bear, even a large male grizzly if they are magnum rounds, that it won't stop it. I am not saying you are wrong Billy, but I am thinking that as soon as the gun goes off, the bear is almost always going to be gone. Even if it doesn't do fatal damage, my thought is, after 2 or 3 of those, the bear will think twice about messing with you...
Update...read in a hunters forum, you do have to buy hardened shells to penetrate bear hide no matter the impact point...I would have never thought that, but I stand by my ascertion from ealier and considering I read you can obtain 4 or 5 different types of 44 mag shells, hardened for tough skinned animals, I am sure Lauri is smart enough to do so...
PS...you can't hide a Vietnam War rifle in your jacket or pants for an OTB game...lol

I dont think Lauri wants to Discuss Firearms of any caliber...Me Neither. I just know alot about Wound Ballistics, so i had to set you Straight. A 45 steps out at around 800 feet per second so it does not over expand upon impact and will penetrate 22 inches of soft flesh.

Hollow points cause the most dammage, as they splatter on impact. The indent on the tip causes a pressure to ripple through the bullet and just rip it apart.
These are what they look like.

it has to be able to penetrate first of all....bear hide has similar qualities to body armor. it is able to stretch and absorb the impact, spreading the force over an extended area.....

Hollow points are designed for home protetion. If someone is charging at you, whether or not they have kevlar vests (I'm assuming that's the body armor you're talking about), the hollow points will cause massive dammage with a gaping hole (no kevlar vest) or many broken bones in the chest (with kevlar vest). My machine tools teacher has a story about somethign along those lines. He's a part-time police officer, and one day when he was on duty, his wife called his cell phone adn said somebody broke in their house and was still there. He sent some officers there and the guy had left. She was visibly shaken, but not because she was scared. She was upset because she couldn't find the hollow points for her .44 magnum so she could "cap that bastard." (True story, by the way.)
