Chess.com friends, I would like to to alert you to what I think is a potential scam taking place.

The person will challenge you to a game. During the game they will start a chat with you. After chatting in chess.com they will ask to move the chat to a completely different platform, and after chatting on that platform they will introduce you to their “cyber currency business”. I am a cybersecurity engineer and I have read about these scams, where they get the victim to invest thousands, if not tens of thousands of dollars into so called cyber currency but all that happens is that the victim loses their money.

The attackers usually pose as women and they search for men- usually older men as their target.

Please do not fall for this (I did not as I was recently targeted). Do not give out your personal or financial information to people you do not know. Keep your information protected. If you suspect a scam, report them over the platforms reporting capability and block them if necessary. If you have been targeted, report this to local law enforcement. Maintain a copy of all chat transcripts. Don’t give money to a person you do not trust.

Above all, be aware and if it looks like it is too good to be true, it’s likely a scam.

In general just don't move a chat to another platform

Ok, so just don’t be dumb by going off to another site to talk with an obvious troll? Sounds fine.

I had a lady (guy) try to take me offsite over a year ago. Guess I make myself a target gifting people and telling people my age. I just don't want to pretend like I'm a kid because I'm not. Kids shouldn't be led to believe you're young when you're not.
