Cabby and his old PC --- In or Out ?

Yes my old PC ( I call it Mr HP Compaq ) is still hit and miss, earlier today it would not let me into this site at all. Recently the old machine has been acting goofy again. So the question that I ask myself is: " will the old PC last until Jan 1st ? "

I'm sure it will, at some level.

But, I bet if you had a new one, you could quote outside the gray box.

--- Thanks for the posts.

AlCzervik: Good point, I guess with windows 10 being sold now at the stores I should think about a new machine.

Tkbunny: Very good, I like that thought.

I'm afraid to turn mine off because I don't know if it would come back to life.

This reminds me of my cousin exclaiming "This computer is a working horse!" when comparing my custom built Windows XP computer to his Packard-Bell Windows 95 PC. The thing ran... It took a while to get up to a slow trot, like a working horse in retirement going after an apple, but it ran... However, looking back, I think it probably would have been a good idea to have a fire extinguisher nearby...

...I miss Windows 95's "Ski Free"...

Joseph-S: that is a very cute cartoon.

NomadicKnigjt: yes it can be a bit tricky to get this old machine rearing to go  lol.

Yes my old PC is still very confused, sometimes it lets me into the site and other times it doesn't. Also sometimes it lets me in but then throws me out again after a few minutes. I think that I have a very illogical computer ( is that even possible ?  lol ).

I have seen a lot of old PCs revitalized by having Windows removed and then a fresh lightweight linux installation put on them.  This might eek out some more use from your aging computer.

  Apparently not.

--- Thanks for the post Joseph-S.                                                         Yup the big day was on Sept 3rd, the power supply went dead on the old PC and that was all she wrote ( I keep a very close eye on old cabby  lol ). This is being written on a new laptop working thru wi-fi with a new internet provider ( a new World has dawned here ! ).

--- Thanks for the post Joseph-S. Yes things have changed a bit. I might try to get the old machine fixedup, it still has some nice games in it ( or perhaps I should say had   lol ).

I'd keep it just for nostalgia's sake... Cool

Your getting a new laptop and internet provider reminds me of when DSL finally reached my hilltop, about a decade after the cities in the region had it... hahahaha! Laughing (A 5mb download finished almost as soon as the "Download" bar appears?!?! You gotta be kiddin' me!!! WOO-HOO!!!)

Thanks for the post NomadicKnight. Some of my relatives in the area had the high-speed and wi-fi for a couple of years but I was so used to my old computer and the dial-up that I didn't want to change things ( or spend any money on a new computer ).

New computer = new account?

Anyway, it's good to have you back announcing birthdays of great composers again.

Avatar of badenwurtca

Thanks for the nice post Theron12. In my case here I was still on dial-up with the old PC but as that old machine is history I'm taking out my land-line as well because I have a cell-phone and I don't need 2 phones. The new lap-top is working thru a different ISP so it would be hard for anyone to check back on who had the old PC and therefore things do get a bit confusing.

Well things are going along okay with the new system here. They put a nice little dish up on my roof and the wind has not been able to blow it off yet ( looking good ! ).
