Chess and Depression

This isn’t exactly off topic, but not enough of it is about chess to put in any of the other forums. This week I was very stressed with lots of things, most recently “you fckin throwin rocks at me boy?” (please don’t report me these aren’t my words) being said to me after I accidentally threw a rock in the general direction of a stranger, and my massive losing streaks haven’t been helping. I sort of snapped today at my sister for saying “are ya winning son” and she blamed this on me playing chess and losing a lot. Which has been adding on to the massive piles of distance school-related stress and anxiety. Now I don’t know if I should quit after starting to play chess again, or continue and risk getting worse. I think it’s extremely insensitive of her to make those comments and tell me to play less chess, but I need to know if I really should close my account and lock away the chessboard. I don’t plan on doing it, because it could get better, but it could get worse.

I guess nobody is really going to look at this, I just needed to get it out. Thank you

I think you can easily take a break from chess without completely locking the chessboard. Like you could stop playing bullet and blitz for a while, and play only daily games.

Playing only daily games would give you a lot of free time to pursue your other hobbies, or do anything else you'd like to. wink.png

Wow can’t say I’m surprised somebody would joke about anxiety and depression for shits and giggles. Not the time hypermuddish, not the time.
