Yeah, that is pretty rude behavior. I especially agree with the aborts. One player continually aborted on me, cussed me out for my continuing to ask the system for a new game. So I asked him to either play me, or wait one minute while I get put with someone else. He played me, but continually pressured me to keep my pieces moving.
I think the thing to remember is, this is an internet based operation, which provides some form of anonymity, even for those of us who pay for it. There are always going to be a few bad apples, regardless how stringent or agressive Erik is at weeding baddies. Let's focus on the positive!
Can we just play some chess?
I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but I've run into a rash of rude behavior lately that I don't think is coincidence. First, a number of opponents simply abandoned the game, without resigning or signing out, when they found themselves in a losing position---often with plenty of time left on the clock, leaving me to sit there waiting. Please, if you don't like your game, resign. Don't just walk away.
Second, people abort immediately, then play again, and abort again. I'm guessing this is because I didn't play the opening they wanted to play against. Maybe there should be a way to request playing a specific opening. Maybe only as an unrated option.... I don't know.
Anyway, when a player does either of these to me a second time, I have to add them to my blocked list. Maybe there's a better way to handle such events. (It just occurred to me that it could be useful to be able to look up the number of "blocks" a player has received. Making that a public number could be an incentive for them to play a little nicer.)
Just a thought.
