Class Treasurer

I am running for Class Treasurer this week and would like some advice from others.  What is your advice on how best to get votes?  Thanks.

RyanMK

Don't know, but I'll vote for you. Granted, I'm not in your class, so it won't make much difference.

All I now is that if you screw up finding a trailer for homecoming parade it gets ugly for you (not a personel expirence, but I have seen it happen)

Make a speech that doesn't make unrealistic claims. That always works.

How much of a danger are the others who are competing with you?

KillaBeez

Not much.  They are all girls.  I am the only boy.  There are more boys than girls in the freshman class

So your class is sexist? Lets talk about qualifications for the job, as well as the popularity of all the candidates, including you (sadly, this is mostly just a popularity contest). Then, we need a decent slogan for you. When elections for President and Vice-President were being held at my old school, some people played around with their last names a bit with slogans like "Don't vote wrong. Vote Wright!" and "She's the man" (the person's last name was Shi). The winner of the presidential election had the slogan "Vote (insert name here)! It's so easy a caveman could do it". Make sure you make your advertisements stand out a little bit, and make sure they are in areas where people will see them, but whatever you do, do not put them on lockers. Put them above them. Make sure that your promises will promise things people want, and maybe make it so it seems a bit unlikely that a promise will actually happen but not too unlikely to sway many voters. That way, you have something that your competitors do not dare to promise also, but something you can fulfill. Make sure you can fulfill it though. For my old school's presidential election, the winning candidate promised to play music during the passing periods- something that seemed unlikely to me when I heard it, because these elected positions are ultimately figureheads, but he got it done when he got elected. I am not sure how much a treasurer could promise, but this may give you an idea of what to do. If your school is like my old one, then you cannot attack the other candidates in advertisements, but I wonder if you would be able to win if you posted such things on the internet or something and got people to look at it, therefore dodging this restriction. It is a bit risky though, seeing as teachers or other candidates may find out, and it might be tricky to get people to look anyway without putting it on a flyer or something, which may attract a teacher's attention. Still, if you see any way to get people to doubt the other candidates' promises, this might work out if you are willing to risk it. Be prepared to spend a little money to win- flyers and posters will cost a little. Brainstorm various campaign ideas with your friends. Do not underestimate your competition, even if they divide up the female vote while you might take the male vote. That's all the ideas I have right now.

KillaBeez

Nice idea!  I think I will use the caveman thing.  Really liked the idea.  I have gotten commitments from almost all of the males because my school is so small.

KillaBeez

Turns out I won in a landslide.  Thanks everybody!

There are only a few days before each election?

KillaBeez

Pretty much.  There are only about 80 people in the Freshman class.

Feldmm1

Wow, there is at least 1,000 in mine, and my old school had maybe 300. Small is not a word to describe your school. A better word may be microscopic.
