The quality of the mid-Sixties pop music is often overlooked.  The musicians in the session may not be the actual band itself but "hired guns" like Jamie Jamerson or Carol Kaye, and the music was a little bit more sophisticated than the three-cord drama songs of the Fifties.  There was an explosion of originality in the mid-Sixties that really hasn't stopped yet, started by the songs and production of all those British groups ("the British invasion"), who in turn were inspired by US blues bands that went to Britain in the Fifties ("the American invasion").

I think this often happens Americans ignore certain American music then the British adopt it then it goes back to America and they start to appreciate it. Like the Northern soul scene.

I follow Wings of Pegasus, a British guitarist who analyzes musicians, performances, etc. on youtube with completely spot on, insightful commentary.  Anyway, he calls the Beatles of 1963 "a perfect storm":  a combination of musicianship, vocal talent, songwriting skills, innovation and, unlike most groups, not only of that time but even later, so completely at home on stage from their constant practice before they became famous, that the electricity they create playing live was carried into the recording studio. - all this coming together in the right place at the right time.
These groups were indeed inspired by American blues players, as well as ealry rockers like Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis, the Everlys, Buddy Holly, etc.  Country, or Country and western as they were called then, musicians like Buck Owens, Carl Perkins also helped shape some of the British groups.
Two groups that really surprised (posititvely) me in the above video were The Moody Blues who opened the concert and the Animals.- Eric Burdon put everything he's got into his like performance.

You're old.

I just read an article that claims there is a 60-40 split in college enrollment in favor of women.  The article went on to say that if this trends continues, in a few years, college educated women will outnumber men 2-1.   I'm sure, though I don't know for a fact, that most of the men are in the hard sciences while most of the women are still liberal arts, but that trend too may change.
Guys, go to college if you have the chance.

Doesn't matter.

Men will still be paid more!

I'm 47.  I'm no spring chicken, that's for sure.

But music appreciation isn't age-dependent unless you're narrowminded.

Men have had it their way through most of time.  It's easy to rest on the laurels of the past.  (or think because all world champions have been men, that somehow that makes men in general superior).  The sand seems to be shifting.  Unless this trend is treated seriously, soon it's be women dictating the pay scale and the ineffectual boy's clubs will be out back with the smokers.    I really don't want to see that (except the part about the boys clubs). I believe in everyone working together equally or at least with equal opportunity.    But opportunity belongs to those who seize it.   Guys, don't let the sands slip through your fingers!

Can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not.

I graduated from a small technical college in 1980. Modern electronics was still in its infancy but I learned a lot of math. We had several hundred men and two women. We had different schedules and classes so I never met them. I can only imagine what they had to put up with.

I'll have to listen to that concert when I have more time. I generally prefer the harder more upbeat stuff like the Beatles, Stones, Kinks, Talking Heads and such. The Moody Blues could rock out when they wanted. Here's a good one from the Spencer Davis Group. Chicago later did a very good version.

That's a good song... sort of urbanesque.

Bill Burr paraphrase "Oh, motherhood is the most difficult job? I thought roofing in the middle of July as a redhead was difficult, I don't know, maybe I'm wrong. These mothers at home, bending over at the waist putting DVDs in DVD players... sending the kids to bed early on some trumped up charges because they want to have a glass of wine and watch the price is right."
