Computer Connections Between Countries?

Sort:

Either I have mistaken the rules or something is happening in the computer link process that is not allowing me to move as I should against an opponent. It has happened  to me twice with two different countries. If that makes sense. What do I do about it?

sftac

- is it your turn to move?  If not, the site will not allow you to move (regardless of 'country').

- try reloading the webpage next time it happens (might be a glitch, if so, that ought to clear it up)

ps.  Prediction:  tomorrow you will receive a new 'Trophy'.  Congratulations!

First thank you for answering the call. Yes, it is my turn to move. I am aware that a larger majority of the population is in pc format and I am in mac/apple format. I have had issues with my internet link connection. However I do not want to be rude to an opponent if they do not answer me or close down their chat. In this instance out of respect do I still try what you have suggested and in an online point system. How does this work out?

sftac

Hmm ("a larger majority"), -- I anticipate there's no need to puzzle that expression out.

I'm unfamiliar with mac/apple formats and have never seen such a device.  I assume they are electronic and not mechanical (that is, post-Abacus in character), and so, may use esoteric operating systems and browsers such as Leopard and Safari or somesuch terms that I've overheard at times.

If your internet browser is able to reload a webpage, I suggest trying that should you again encounter a situation where it is your move, yet you are unable to move.  This may (or may not) 'clean up' a glitch that is causing your problem.

Your issues with your connection may be causing transitory glitches.  Reloading the webpage ought to clear that up.  A more serious step would be deleting your browser 'cookies', but I don't think that would help during a game.

I recall the popularity of "Fisher" in the chess community! We where taught the "PC's Ms-Dos"... I cannot recall all and yes I am "esoteric". I choose it for it's "character". As of yet! I do not percieve the need to reinstall my browers. Without a doubt of your assistance. I will definetly try your suggestion and proceed from hence forth.

sftac

Not "re-install", merely "reload" the webpage.  Usually (well, with MS Windows' and Firefox or I.E.), one click reloads a webpage.

If a reload option is not offered as part of your browser options, you could close out the webpage and return briskly (else the site may interpret your action as a 'disconnection').  If you cannot move anyway, then you've nothing to lose by trying this approach.

Again, this suggestion has nothing to do with re-install browser.  Merely 'reload' the webpage, a matter of 3-5 seconds with most connections.

Once again thank you. The Safari Browser does re-load in a similiar fashion as the Firefox Browser. I have both and preference the Safari. To add and I cannot recall the step by step process for this to re-write for all with wanting to know. I kept the Firefox Browser in place just in case I needed to re-install the Safari Browser and for other legal reasoning. I attempted to re-load the page and I know for sure and have learned that some is visual. Which I expected. As the standard 2d format of the chess.com board is not visually correct for those with medical vision conditions. I have already been made aware of the 3d format to purchase but that can be in fact worse for ones like us. I also need to re-read the rules to make sure I am not missing anything in between all aspects of play.

When comparing the 2d versus the 3d format of chess boards generally, I much prefer the 2d format (but if I had to, I think I could get used to the 3d format).

With your condition, I suspect it's very hard to estimate the value in advance.  The 'proof of the pudding' would be in your comparing 3D with 2D.  If the 3D software for here does not have a satisfaction/money back guarantee, there are various free online chess sites that offer both types of chess board displays.

Else, you could consider buying inexpensive chess playing software such as ChessMaster 10th Edition, that offer both 2D and 3D playing boards, so you could get a sense of whether there is a major improvement from a 3D display.

Your opthalmologist (possibly an optometrist, but they're not trained in the area of brain damage affects on vision) might have a suggestion or two for improving your playing enjoyment with the 2d board.  Meanwhile, I'd be thinking, maybe:  tilt the monitor screen; experiment with simple tinted filters; and maybe use 'Settings' to try different board/piece colour schemes.

Dear Don,

First, I am trying to grasp all that you have written. I will give you one example in differnetial as I think others can understand this. I am not Dyslexia. However, many children are that become adults. They are now learning after all of these years that they in fact believe it a vision problem and now have therapies. They (physicians) are reffered too Developmental Optometrists. I however see everything in two's with an additional eye problem and would require a lengthy medical discussion that The Developmental Optometrist cannot guarantee that the $3,000.00 six month therapy will fix only this/these eye issues. Then you have to add in the equation of severe astigmatism and a previous RK (Radial Keratotomy) surgery. To further add to this equation medically. I also require a NeuroOpthamologist based on my neurological medical conditions and brain damage (trauma). Which I have not been able to pay for in the seeing. The last Optometrist did his best in the transition of three glasses. He literally had to transition my prescription in three graduall steps.

Plus, the 3d effects in movies, 3D cameras, 3D HDTV's, handheld 3D systems, 3D eyewear, etc. are causing symptoms, etc. in children and adults. Here is a link that might help you or others to understand.
