2. A King, because of his kingdom's increased crime rate, decrees that any persons entering a town or city must state their purpose, or be hanged by the King's law.  A sophist attempts to enter a town, and, when questioned, says that his purpose is to be hanged by the King's law.  Should the man be hanged?

Unless wanting to be hanged by the King's law is against the King's law punishable by hanging, then the sophist will not be able to achieve his goal if the guards simply hang him anyway.  He would be hung, but not actually by King's law.

Glad you enjoyed the question and yes there are more than one answer.  But, the answer I was thinking of was say " Take me to your village" this works because if he's a liar he will take you to the truth telling village and if he is a truth teller then he will take you to the truth village.  This way you end up at the village with no directions.Wink
